Would You Take $10M but Could Never Write Again? (My Answer)
“Would you take $10m but you could never write again?”
I’m strolling along Manchester’s canals on a sunny Sunday with my best friend.
We’re highly caffeinated and talking life and business.
I’m about to say something that surprised us both.
“No, I wouldn’t.”
I paused to reconsider. It’s a lot of smackeroonis. But after a few seconds, I knew for sure.
“Yeah man, I’d pick writing.”
My friend nods in approval.
I explain:
“It gives my life so much meaning. I love every second. Even when it’s challenging. Maybe even especially so. It fills me with purpose and energy. And I’m only getting more excited.
…Why on earth would I stop that train?”
I drove back home an hour later with a smile on my face.
I couldn’t wait to write this email.
Let’s cut through the usual chitchat about why writing is good for your business.
I want to talk about why it’s good for your life.
When I started online 5 years ago, so much bullshit melted away.
I was fed up with my career. I was anxious and stressed. I was balls deep in the rat race and didn’t know what to do with my life.
I hated that feeling. Drifting around, going through the motions.
I wanted to create.
So I began exploring my curiosity, found writing, and started tapping away before work.
Damn. It. Was. Fun.
I wasn’t very good, but it didn't matter. I never missed a morning, even if I was exhausted. I couldn’t wait to get typing.
… I still can’t.
Writing lights me up. I feel present, free from attachments, and engrossed in the craft.
Time melts away.
And the fact people read my stuff?
Still blows my mind.
Maybe because it took a year to get anyone except my mum to pay attention…
But to see your ideas making an impact is the best feeling in the world.
And outside of writing, it just gets better.
Because the clearer you think, the clearer you write.
Which means ‘work’ is a combination of:
- Building things that matter
- Meditation
- Walking
- Reading
- Exploring your curiosity
- Stepping outside your comfort zone
- Trying to be as present as possible (the key to creativity)
The fact the Internet rewards you for this stuff is insane.
When I try to explain it to my ‘normal’ friends they think I’ve lost the plot.
But if you want to get paid to think, make a real difference, and build a business that unlocks real freedom and purpose…
Writing online is the Mona Lisa of careers.
That’s why I like to teach it.
I’ve helped beginners get clear on their niche, write consistently, and start getting paid.
I’ve helped clients quit their 9-5 to pursue their passion through writing (some have gone on to build multi-six figure businesses whilst travelling the world).
I’ve helped experts communicate their value clearly so they get the reputation they deserve.
Regardless of your goals…
It’s incredible what writing unlocks.
I might not be the richest writer in our space.
But I’m having an incredible time.
Appreciate your attention,
Kieran
